Suggestions?

I'm just starting out in metal detecting, but I don't want to start with a "beginners" detector, atleast not one of the cheaper ones. I'm wanting to spend around 400.00-600.00 dollars. I live in South Carolina and I'm looking for a detector with the best capabalities (for my price range), for coin, jewelry and relic detecting. I've researched quite a bit, but I'm having trouble narrowing down my list. What I'm left with is this:

Tesero Cibola - nice price, but I'm not sure how it would do relic hunting. The site I went to only mentioned it under it's coin detector section, so I'm assuming thats what it's primarily used for.

Tesero DeLeon - The only drawback I see for this one is no manual ground balancing.

Tesero Golden uMax - No manual ground balancing either, but has a nice feature with the adjustable notch filter discrimination.

Tesero Tejon - when I called a local dealer, he said it was a great machine, but comes with a lot of noise as it picks up signals from nearly any metals.

Tesero Vaquero - same as above

Minelab X-Terra 50 - no real negatives I've found so far.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I think most people would suggest the Minelab, but were I to go with a Tesero instead, any suggestions of the best of the ones mentioned?

it seems like you would do good with any of those choices. all great machines. if it were me.......id probably do the minelab. no particular reason......... other than that i am a big fan of target id screens and to my knowledge the tesoros dont have screens. ( except for maybe the tejon?)people that own tesoros seem to swear by them! i really dont think you can go wrong with any of your listed options. try to find a dealer for minelab and tesoro in your area and try a few out.it will come down to your personal preferances because they are all very capable machines.

The new Whites Matrix M6. 2 knobs to deal with, super ID. and pin point. Check around and you can find one for 10 to 30 dollors under your 600.00 limit.

I agree with all your choices for relic hunting. Tesoro machines seem to have a lock on this area. I am looking at a Cibola for myself and its seems to excel in all areas. The biggest thing to consider is manual GB or preset. The Tejon and Vaquero are manual and are super relic and all around machines, the Cibola is preset and may not do well in all soils. Check out www.metaldetectorreviews.net. Good luck with your decision!!!!

You have it reversed for the Cibola. As it does not have digital ID- it is known as a relic machine and has been mentioned a lot on the relic forums with it's bigger brother(with manual ground balance- the Vaquero). I believe the Tejon has slightly better depth than it's two cousins(C&V)but a heck of a lot higher price. Yes these Tesoros have done well in the relic department.

You have a good selection here- Just need to find a dealer with the above brands with a test garden. You may just prefer digital ID when coin shooting. You have to find what you like not what we like.
