This must just be a "decorative" clock as it says "Submarine Clock" on the face and the glass door does not latch tightly which would be required on the high seas. It does seem to have quality though. It is a heavy, brass case. I don't know how I came about getting this thing. I was cleaning out my shop area and there it was. I don't have the key to wind it. There aren't any mfg marks anywhere on the case but there is a small, paper sticker on the back that says "NO 057 Somerset". Anyone have any idea as to history? I have a bathroom with an "ocean" theme so I'm thinking about screwing it to the wall. Where would I get a key for it?

Looks like they would schedule their ' Report On Watch' duty times after the hour. We always did ours a quarter till the hour to the top of the hour, every four hours.

Nice piece. There should be more information on the back, maybe where we can't see?.

Thanks for the advice pip. No GIB, nothing at all stamped or engraved in it anywhere on the outside. Not on front, sides or back and it's all very visible. Like I said, it seems to be a "quality" item but it seems they aren't proud enough of it to put their name on it. Another out-of-order thing to me is that it has Roman numerals and not standard numbers. Makes it seem even more as just a decorative piece. The green areas on the face look like they were definitely painted on with masking tape and a brush by hand. The times you refer to marked by the green are similar to other sub clocks on the net.

remove those (4) brass screws...careful remove clock...should be a name or some identifiers on the movement...

hope the clock keeps time...measure the winding stem before you go searching for the key...

I think I'll do that when I get back from the shooting range today pip. Can't hurt it cause I'm ready to settle for it just hanging on the bathroom wall as a decorator piece, doesn't have to work.
Weatherman says high today of 79. Just thought I'd throw that out there. :)

Took it apart and guess what?.....the only thing stamped on the inside was "SUBMARINE CLOCK". :) The workings appear to all be brass but not as big as I would have thought.

Well then, that certainly is interesting... the plot thickens.

When I decide to go to a clock shop in search of a key I'll see if they know anything about it. If so, I'll update this post.
