Saturday dawned bright and sunny, very excited as we went to a field I have wanted to do since we started detecting, finally the sheep are off it and the electric fence is gone. This field had a Tithe Barn on it so was curious to see what we would find.

I found this gorgeous lead weight, (217 grams) totally love it, I know you all like the coins, but for me, this is my dream find!
Found loads of these chunky nails, have added a musket ball to give you an idea of the size, the big one weighs 207 grams.
A little Be Prepared badge, 2 more chunky bits of lead (?) Musket balls, Bobbin shot, and some other bullets. A teaspoon, clock key and bit of metal plate, buttons and a solitary coin ( no ID yet) xx

Another stunning field to spend the day in, so took pics for you xx 😆

Update… the coin is George 2nd Halfpenny 1729-1754!! Nice!! 😆 xx

Well ya know the gold was way to the left in that first landscape pic, or is that only for us Irish?
The long stem thing with the buttons, Is that a upholstery tack?
Nice day my friend, and hope you have more luck tomorrow!!!

ha… we tried to follow the rainbow… but it kept moving 😳! 😂😂 it’s some kind of tack… I know they used them on leather…. But not sure what This one was used for! xx

Dang . Still ancient ground.....

Congrats on the goodies!
Simple buttons. Not so simple construction "back when".

Your Boy Scouts of America Scout Motto pin had a wire loop on it. (I don't know if England had a connection in scouting with similar ranks , pins, badges ect...)
Just wire , like know your knot skills as a scout or something.
Probably not Roman in origin. (Yes , I'm so helpful dating your recoveries aren't I. l.o.l..)

Yours is different than the picture I posted...
Upon looking , the U.K. has scouting. The difference in design is then understandable with source of construction likely different and creative liberty.

Second class scout item.
Here's the requirements (todays standards in the U.S.) to be second class.
Your scout earned his . And lost it (?) for you to recover.

Update on the lead weight… i think the Symbol is a Crosier….a hooked staff carried by a bishop as a symbol of pastoral office xx
I should be quiet after garbling the scout item incorrectly.
Nahh. Take the plunge instead!

Tithe house and someone of a pastoral office's badge/symbol worn sure seems like a related tie of context.
That would be an astounding connection to the site.

Exactly its perfect for the sites history i am beyond excited with it honestly xx

Is the coin a King George II half penny? Looks similar to one found at a local fort site here in town.

EDIT: Hahaha I see you slipped in an update to your original post while I wasn't looking... Great find;

I think the scout item is very late roman...amazing...

Beautiful place to be, metal detecting or not. What is a "tithe house?"

In the Middle Ages Farmers were required to pay a Tithe to the Church, (one-tenth of their produce each year) hence the barns used to store the Produce were known as Tithe Barns Xx

Well that fits perfectly with the late Medieval Weight (generally referred to as Trade Weights), you could speculate that yours was used to weigh some of the Tithe grain etc.

The nails are Roman.
The key is an 18th/19th C Barrel Tap Key. Often used by the person controlling the workers in the fields, so they didn't drink too much.

Thanks Crusader for the Key ID! I will definitely speculate the weight was used to weigh the Tithe… the Abbey adjacent to the field was on the site from 1162 until Henry 8th “sacked” it. The stones from the building were used to build the wall around the deer park! xx
