We have lots more option than normal for this time of year but none of them are any good.
On the way to try a couple of new fields, we saw some fail crop & stopped the car.
We spent 2 hours on an area near one of our Roman Sites & ended up with 7 scrappies. This actually takes us to our best May on record even before the middle of the month! As I say ploughed land is normally about 0 right now.
Plus a top of a 17th C spoon.
We then went on to the new land for 1 hour 45 minutes with wind, rain & hail - I left my waterproof in the car!:tongue3:

Not much to report there other than my first late 18th C Silver Clog Clasp. So not a bust!

Over 20 years ago I would be to. However, our normal targetting means great results nearly everytime. So we kind of get in an always good rut...Today was still OK, a 'bad day' would be one without a 'first' of anything & no GPS recordables; which I can't remember happening for a long while.

Is the large item on the top right a pommel to a sword? You always find some choice things.

All in All you still did very good. Can you tell us why there are so many failed crops in your region?

I know what you mean Cru. I've had a lot of success in recent years too, and now have high expectations every time out. And it's a real bummer when you don't have a good day. But at least you're getting into some sites that are usually off limits this time of year. That's a lot better than me as I've been done for 2 weeks now, and have to wait until the fall. Hope you can pull out one more great find before all the crops are in. Good luck to you guys.

Great finds, nothing to shake a stick at! HH

I think you mean the blank Geo halfpenny?

Too much rain at the wrong time.

Some up North have only planted 200 acres in 4000!

I see a Roman I'd not scrap
Thought I knew a bit about spoons, apparently not this one....
Tell me where it is please.
Congrats on your finds :occasion14:

Struggling? Lol. You have gotten spoiled indeed:). Struggling for alot of us is bolts and tinfoil. I often wonder if this detecting hobby is progressive ... Always trying to top your best find .. And not being satisfied with what was good enough before.
I'd like to think that's not how it is. Takes the fun out if it. But once you reach the caliber of coins and such that you have... ( I've seen some of your other finds) A coin from the 1800's is like modern money I imagine.

That would have been my first guess, did it have a 'Knopf' or head on the flat part ?
not sure if that's the terminology. thanks for your reply :
I'm still looking for my Roman over here.
I really want to respond to one of the replies posted, maybe I'll get a chance
on my own thread :laughing7:

Struggling is subjective & yes we are very spoilt.
I always like to top my best find or get something from my 'impossible' top 5 wish list. But I'm also happy with anything new, ie. a 'first', even a new button type will do.
Anything that used to be good enough is fine up until the point that you get several thousands, like a plain tombac button or a musket ball.
Yes, 1800s is considered the 'modern era' in the UK, but it doesn't mean there are not items I enjoy finding from this period.
