Strange Plate

Greetings.....

Long time since I've posted on TNet. Found my 2nd G.W. late last fall but never got around to posting that.

But , On Monday me and an old friend were detecting an early colonial site possible Rev.war fort site (No one knows but it was somewhere near there)
Place has been pounded to death and finds were slim but dead on target on the Minelab.

Down about a foot or so out pops this plate. I believe it's some sort of sash plate and is thick brass. Has 4 tabs on the back but nothing on the front. Close examination there appears to be an NY etched into it but with my old eyes who knows.

Wanted to post it and see if any younger eyes can help. Is it a plate or just an oval piece of metal ?

Either a plate off a piece of furniture or maybe a over the shoulder belt plate. It's hard to tell with those hooks on the back.

Interesting find for sure Derek, unfortunately I don't see any sign of letters on the face except for a few scratches.

But, your buddies in the background sure look excited about your find!

Furniture plate. Cross belt plates have a very distinct back with a hook. Good job at getting such a big signal at a pounded area though!

We find these, they are mostly horse blinkers.

It’s a trunk plate. There was an article about them in AD not many years ago. Not military.
