All I can find out so far is it is from 1955 (from the patent #).
The patent number 2721349, locks up my computer on the us patent site.
Others have tried and not been able to find any info.
Any ideas? It has a wheel like a striker for a lighter at the top, but no wick.
One person suggested it was a type of ink roller. The roller part is about 1/2" and is serrated just like a lighter wheel would be, but it is a little bit wider.

That is weird one....
I was thinking maybe some sort of old pin stripe put-er-on-er. ( device for painting pin stripes ) That would be my only guess...
Looks too complicated for that though...
Good luck on the ID, & Happy hunting~

The rest of the story........in addition to the diagram link I posted above.

This device was for burnishing/oiling/cleaning automated telephone switchbank terminals.

A length of fabric strip was threaded through (shows the ringed circle as the storage area for the strip) and covered the rollers. You can see the faint lines on the diagram that indicate the path of the fabric.

"This invention relates to a decive for cleaning dust or dirt from a plurality of closely adjacent and relatively thin objects, such as a series of this plates, blades or discs, and for lubricating such parts when desired.

It is the general object of the inventor to provide for easy and rapid replenishment of the wiping material as it becomes worn or soiled.

A further object is to provide a decive having convenient storage provisions for a supply of fresh wiping material. I also provide for increasing tension on the cleaning material as it is drawn through the device.

To the accomplishment of these general objects, my invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims."

Thanks Sparlystuff,
Did you get that info from the patent site? I can't view it. I think it may be a quicktime viewer which I don't have on my computer.
Can you post an actual image from the site?
I still can't see where any cloth would fit into this item? and what is the screw with the hole for?
aprreciate your info just the same 8)

You're welcome. I have the book copy. I scanned it, but it's too large to post. Sent you a pm.

The cloth strip roll is shown as being housed in part with the concentric circles where the patent number is. The outer case/housing is not shown in the diagram...it's just the guts.

The screw is to advance/create tension on the cloth. It's larger in the actual product than in the tech. drawing.

Did you ever find out what this is? I have one just like this except it has a hook attached to the projected piece to the right (in this picture) of the concentric circled piece. I also have several additional wheels and flat plates that can be interchanged with the wheel that is on this one. I was able to print out the diagram and description off the US Patent Office site, but I can't quite picture how this would be used according to description. Thanks for any help you can give.
