Hi all,

I'm having a hard time identifying what this object may be. Found it while detecting the pensacola bay beach. It's 1 1/2 - 2 inch oval that's solid copper. The object is very smooth and on the backside is concave and the bottom of my thumb fits perfectly into the slight indentation. The Front is smooth and bulges out slightly. Reminds me of a very old belt plate just smaller. Any help is appreciated. 16051552083332825652559059348665.webp16051552711532173169040762302392.webp16051552935918128248357952293131.webp

It's very thick btw about 3 pennies stacked thick

Could it be a spoon missing the handle and worn smooth from surf action......?

Welcome from Panama City, Florida to TNet and the madness and addiction that comes from relic hunting.

It's about the same size as a teaspoon is round just much thicker and very heavy. No signs on any edges of breaking or solder.

Could be a palm guard for sewing, although all the palm guards I've seen are lead?

This is the only things I could find similar online. Some sort of a strap plate for a weapon across the chest. But not big enough for a belt plate.Screenshot_20201112-020435.webpScreenshot_20201112-020435.webp

I think I found some Brit ones awhile back that were made of copper and around 2 inches at the objects longest point around the time of the war of 1812 / battle New Orleans time frame

Welcome to Tnet Scott.

With it being 'dished' on one side, my first thought was the top to a snuff or jewelry box. :icon_scratch:

It does look similar on the top. However it seems about half the size of most snuff boxes. Also it's solid very thick copper all the way through. Very heavy

I think it was an appliqué to something.

If it had some sort of attachment point, my guess would be a thumb lever off a front door handle.

It’s a copper worry stone. Some are made out of brass, pyrite, magnetite but most are made from rocks and stones. I found one made out of brass once, virtually identical to your find. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1605238213.042352.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1605238228.241226.webp

Wow, a 'worry stone', this is something I've never heard of before. :icon_scratch:

"Worry stones are smooth, polished gemstones, usually in the shape of an oval with a thumb-sized indentation, used for relaxation or anxiety relief.
They are used by holding the stone between the index finger and thumb and gently moving one's thumb back and forth across the stone."

In our house, my wife does all the worrying... does that count. :laughing7:

I never heard of one either. I guess I don't have enough to worry about! :laughing7: So, now you have to buy one to ease your worry about not having enough money to buy food? :icon_scratch: I think I'll just continue to have a drink and twiddle my thumbs....
