Stone With Green Tinge

I'm posting this here to try and identify the type of stone that was used to make this celt. Has a slight greenish hue under bright light. Very dark looking otherwise. It was purchased with information as to where it was found. I'm trying to ascertain whether that is true or not by the material used. I will post this on the Native American artifacts board as well. I'm hoping they could offer something maybe going by the shape of it, I don't know. But I posted here first to try and ID the material. Thanks.

I've always called it greenstone, but don't know the proper ID. Nice Celt!

It may very well be greenstone from the look of it. Greenstone is a metamorphic rock formed after basalt and has a green appearance due to the minerals that comprise it. In my opinion it is a metamorphic rock.

Either gabbro or pyroxenite - or something related IMHO.
