✅ SOLVED Stone used by Native Americans?

I found a large stone along a river bed (beach) that was near a known 18th century Indian Settlement. It has "scars" and "gouges" that do not seem like natural scraping. I think it could have been used to cut and clean fish, or as a way of sharpening a tool?

The Stone has scars on both sides. The first and second images display both top and bottom surfaces of the stone


Any help would be appreciated!

I'm sorry but it is a naturally formed rock. If you were cutting and cleaning fish with a stone bladed knife you definitely wouldn't want a stone cutting board. Keep looking. You will find real relics one day.

Thanks Steve. I was also thinking someone (trapper?) maybe used it to sharpen an axe or knife blade. I will certainly keep searching. One day I will find a "keeper"!

That stone must be relatively soft, such as sandstone, and the damage is from being driven over by very heavy equipment (big dozer) that mashed it into other rocks. My guess.

That looks like it must be softer than limestone. Can you scratch it see what color the inside is?

The stone could have been part of glacial till, rocks that are pushed along in front of a glacier as it advances if your area is known as an area where a glacier pushed till before it receded, it might be that .Central Park in New York has some boulders in ground that show where glaciers pushed through then receded.But more than likely it is probably a simpler reason than that like equipment scraping over it then it flipped and scraped the other side also.

Glacial action, a farmer or water vessel probably scratched the stone.
