With three screw holes and flat bottoms, those protective cages look like they were meant to be wall mounted.

Good thought. :icon_thumright: It sure looks like it. Maybe from a ship or factory? Are they brass?

What leads you to believe they are 16th century...tapered screw holes didn't come into being til towards the late 19th to early 20th century...

In fact, these look fairly new with light rust...

My opinion is that these are mid to late 20th century...and I agree with BIgcypress...light protective shields :coffee2:

It was d2 who first thought of light shields. Creskol first thought protective cages.

I'm thinking LIghtbulb, lens guards, maybe for a boat
Obviously they are designed to be mounted to a flat surface
they look like they are guards
