i remember a few years ago i would go trek into the desert with two half litres of water, and would come back almost dead..... lol. the cool making of the camel bak is freaking awesome!!!!! they really do help alot, the other day the temperature was 67-70 over here, beautiful day, me and some friends went riding dirt bikes for about 6 hours, i ran out of water "3 litres" two hours b4 we got through.... so i cant even imagine what this year is going to be like when the temps hit a 100 + over here. Prob gonna try to stay on bikes mostly except to throughly search, and take 2 camel baks, on on my back and the reserve on the handlebars, might even try filling one with pedealite :) lol, i already got a sunburn, but well worth what i found

I use the Camelbak Hellion 100-Ounce Hydration Pack... and they are quite amazing!! I can't imagine being out in the desert though... but the good thing about my pack is that it has 1478 cubic inches of storage space, so I could very well pack 1 or 2 more of the 100oz bladders, along with the primary bladder. The primary sleeve is insulated and keeps the water cold for a VERY long time!!

I guess that this is where I am gratefull to live in Vermont. I usually carry a water bottle in my back pack. There is water everywhere, streams, springs etc. Most of the older house sites are very near a source of water. Even on the hottest days I can fill up just about anywhere.

I am in the stone ages. I still bottle up water and take it with me. It gets soaking wet breath gasping humid here like a jungle. The heat here is way diffrent than the deserts where you turn to toast (chong). If I am on a 4-wheeler I take a cooler with ice and several gallons. If carrying a pack its mostly water, granola bars and sugar food. Always know where I am out and what to expect. I hear the camel backs are nice though. I only drink from certain water sources in the mtns and it has to be ice cold right out of the ground and flowing water or you will get Giardia.
Maybe I need to upgrade this year?
Good post. I think Bran has been lurking?? :laughing7: just kidding ya Bran

No, I lurk quite a bit sometimes... I probably read about 60% more than I post on the threads.

I have an old camelbak that I love, I think it's 70 ounces. We also cache gallon jugs on our hike out to the sites, and then stop and drink them on the way back (as well as pick up the empties.)

Here are a couple of pictures of the scenery and a pretty little pot as found and with a little agua back at the house.

Josh, you NEED to take me on some of your little treks........ I LOVE THE DESERT, USUALLY

TN, if you can afford it, go out and buy one, after you use it a few times you will be like how the heck did i do without?! "like cell phone" the nice thing is there are not these heavy or awkward containers filled with fluid pushing and hitting against your back while hiking, the design allows for you to carry the water and it snugs your back where you dont even notice it, very comfy. the ones i have are GI issue and have very little pockets, i hate packing alot of stuff with me, i tuck in a fold up back pack 4 when i hit it good. i do have one that has alot of pockets that i lend to buddies that insist on carrying all their CRAP with them, gameboys, shoe sole repair kit, ect.....

but yeah, wally work has some there, sporting goods store or better yet gi surplus store will have them. if you can go camel bak brand, GI issue are the best quality, GET ONE MAN!!!!!!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im going to go on line and get one. You guys have convinced me. Wonder if you can do hot fluids in one during the winter while sitting in a tree stand all day : ).
I will let ya know which one I get . Thanks!!!!!!!!

Excellent advice. When younger, I never paid much attention and would suck on a stone. These days a good slug of water is sure WAY more refreshing.
I never lived in the desert, but it sure feels that way here at times. Water, don't leave home without it.

I used to carry water bottles then at the beginning of last summer I got a Camel Back best $30 I have ever spent. I found mine on Ebay.
