Well, things are looking up a little. No....absolutely nothing to get excited about until you know the story. I have been researching the location of "the old picnic grove" outside of town. In the process, while driving the road it is on, I spotted a really old house. I stopped to chat with the owner to see if he knew anything that would help me find what I was looking for.
I always admire the old houses and complement anything I can about the architecture etc. to befriend the owner. In the conversation, he said "yep, lots of history on this property. My uncle from Canton has come down a bunch of times with his metal detector and checked the yard". My heart sunk....lol......I then confessed that is where I was headed and was going to ask if he would allow me.
He said, "sure go ahead, he might have missed something".
Well, as I ended the hunt, he asked what I had found. There was nothing too exciting, and I wasn't conserned he would be sorry he allowed me to hunt, so I showed him my finds.
His comment was, "wow, my uncle didn't find any coins at all, just an old gas wall sconce and some brass kerosine lantern parts.
This sent home to me two points I think are important to remember.
#1. I am starting to learn my new detector a little better.......which we all need to do. and....
#2. Don't be descurraged just because an area has already been hunted before.
Here are my finds from today......mostly clads.........one 1920 wheat
This is a very old house, and I am sure there are coins much older than the 1920 wheat.....I will go back sometime!
