STARTING ON A STRING HERE! WHAT KIND OF DIGGING TOOL TO USE?

My Knife!.jpg

Bought it at an auction for 8 bucks 12 or so years ago. It will never bend or break. I found a website that sells them through Paypal:

I use a Vietnam era U.S. issue spade in wooded or pasture sites (it has a pick attachment, but I seldom have to use that one). The knife I use for everything else, except for when I use the coin probe. My coin probe is brass, and it was handmade by Jerry Baker in Ohio. I have been extremely pleased with it. He can be reached at "J.R. Enterprises" (White's Detector Dealer) Phone number is (513)977-0740.

Stoney 56,

Who is the maker of the shovel2.jpg picture in your post? Third down the long skinny one.

Ed D.

I found this at Ace Hardware for 7.49 , its really strong and I like it a lot,
especially in this dry , hard Virginia soil. Part number (Coron) ct3050

I bought this last winter and have been VERY pleased with it. The ground here in NM can be very hard - caliche clay. I also have one of their hand tools but I use this most of the time. With a little practice you can open a small 2x2 hole no problem.

Could someone tell me roughly what that (Predator) trowel sells for? I used to make some (for trappers) and had one similar to that one, but the blade was more of a radius than a "V". I'm just curious on the price.

Here's another longer/narrower style I also made, all steel, I think the blade was about 12" long, and the handle 16".
