starters,alternators and small cats

Do you guys scrap starters and alternators? or sell them for rebuildable cores? Also is 40$ a good price for small to medium catalytic converters?

it depends on what i have going to the scrapyard and how much time I dont have. $40 for a medium cat is about average.

depends on where you live on the cat. I recover the metals myself from the cats.

I can generally get a good hundred dollars worth of PMG's from a cat, sometimes several hundred dollars of Rhodium from smaller OEM's. There are too many variables concerning cats, and what has how much of what in it to say really which are good and not as good.

The alternators and starters. Alternators you might get more if you take them apart, the housing tends to be aluminum, but is still usually considered cast aluminum so is not the highest paying aluminum anyways. Still what's your time worth? If it's worth your time to gut them for a few ten cents' a pound then have at it, or just sell them as is.

If you can find someone who is willing to buy a starter / alternator for you as a core then i'd definately go that route. You might want to look in the yellow pages under alternator shops / generator repair shops as a starting point.
