Stacy and I did a 5 hour hunt at our new site and had a field day with the bullets.

Nice finds... I believe you got a heel plate there... Maybe some of the other guys will know for sure... Have to hit that spot hard

Question: if those are lead bullets, why are they white? Any other lead stuff I've found in the ground was gray, lead colored.

I guess that's what happens after they lay in the ground 150 yrs.
I will say I had one in my pocket today and I noticed the white was rubbing off and it looked more grayish like lead?

No one has commented yet about that unusual CW bullet you show in the front row of your last (group) picture yet, so I will start.
Very cool bullet! It appears to be a pulled bullet that was then reloaded in the rifle musket and fired. I only see one of these dug once every couple of years, and have yet to find one myself. Nice! Good job, Geologyjohn

Thanks!! That's so cool to know. We're new to this so any help on your finds is great.

These civil war bullets are our first ones. Before these finds we never heard of or had a clue what a Gardner's or .54 caliber Sharps bullet was.
To find a piece of history just laying around is so cool.

By any chance would you know what that piece of lead was laying to the right in the pic with all the bullets? The boy seems to think it was a bullet that some soldier some how flattened out.Have you ever found or seen other pieces like that?
