The one is certainly an off set strike.

What a great find! I'm also eager to see the cleaned up images. The "1785" appears to be a 1788 Connecticut Copper reverse (A.1). See the die crack. The 8s are modified Ss. That reverse is only known to be matched with one obverse and this is the pairing:
