Hey everyone,
Hit a new site today for a bit and as you can see the area I hit was loaded with spoons. Nearly every hole I dug had pottery shards and oyster shells pouring out so I'm guessing I was in an old trash pit. This leads me to believe that there's a cellar or structure of some type nearby so I'll be sure to make a return trip asap as the area is loaded with walls, trails, and at least one cart path. Snagged a couple buckles to boot, thanks for looking and HH.

Are any of them marked?

CHEERS :coffee2:

Heck yeah, that's a very good sign. Keep pounding that place and good luck.

More like a spoon graveyard :laughing7: What it "might" be is a bottle dump deep in the ground. Yes, some are marked with the usual like Rogers,Sheffield, and two that say B&A RR which is interesting considering there's train tracks nearby.

Very good sign indeed. May have been an old picnic ground. Cellar hole doesn't necessarily have to be near by. Could have been an open field with picturesque scenery for people to enjoy while picnicking. Definitely worth a return trip.

I did some overlays of a hand drawn map from the 1870's and google earth and there were a few structures including some homes,a business, and a school in the area. It's a fairly large stretch of woods so there's quite a bit of "legwork" as you so precisely stated earlier to be done

Congrats on your instant spoon collection :laughing7:
I'd say it's a picnic area, odd how so many spoons
turn up in relation to forks :icon_scratch: HH

Thanks Steel, there were oyster and clam shells coming out of the ground like crazy with shards of broken dishes and tea cups as well as embossed bottles. I think I might have the location of a cellar narrowed down somewhat near the spoon area. I plan to investigate it asap!

Elephants go looking for tender grasses when they loose all their teeth and end up dying there, making an "elephant burial ground". Perhaps spoons do the same thing when they start wearing down and getting thin. Hey, it could happen.

Nice collection of spoons.
Can't believe you didn't dead center them with a digging tool. I always seem to turn them into a "U" configuration.
