well i guess ill go to the irrigation shop and take a pic of the one on the counter. one way to tell if it is a drive point for a well would be to measure the opening on the end ...it would have to measure 1 1/4 or 2 inch as those are the only two sizes ever made for a hand driven type well. the screen that goes between the pipe and the drive point would measure the same as the pipe to accomodate the coupling that hooks them together hence the hole in the piece in question should measure 1 1/4 or 2 inch also. by the looks of the picture its only 3/4 of an inch? either way ill get a pic on monday when toro opens up unless some of the expert googlers here can do better at finding a pic of one on the net than i did. dave

back in the 80s i did underground utility work, we had a couple machines called
moles, torpedo's or missiles that would do directional bore holes under roads so you didn't have to dig up
the asphalt. they worked off of hydraulics. some times when you were doing a really
long bore they would get hung up and you couldn't get them back and lost them.
they were shaped like what you have and designed to go thru just about anything.
the tip like yours was replaceable so when they got dull or lost the whole thing was not a total loss.
it looks like the tip of yours has a carbide tip welded onto it. i don't think that was available more
than 40 years ago
