THAT BUTTON IS 1700'S STYLE  - MAY WANT TO CHECK AREA YOU FOUND IT A LITTLE MORE

Interesting! The button is a little bigger than a quarter. In fact, I thought it was a quarter when I first saw it but it didn't ID up as high as a quarter. I was thinking, now why would a quarter, on top, only ID up like a pulltab?

Then I turned it over and saw the loop stub. Ah HA!.

One thing though, if this is really that old, how could it be in this good shape? Just what material is used for a button like this? Why isn't it corroded more? Sorry, a bit confused about buttons.

Thanks for the response!

Its made of tombac, which comes out better than silver sometimes but always very good. Its 1800 give or take 10-15 years either side.

Shows you how much I know. That's the first time I ever heard of tombac. :)

Thanks for the info! Funny though, this button was just about on top. 1800 huh. Interesting to think that the button may have been laying right there for 200 years or so.
