Just off the coast of northern California, there are 20-ton boulders of jade. Not sure they are the apple-green variety, though.

What would you do with a 20ton piece of jade? Carve a very big Buda. The little one is nice

What you have IMO... is a resin perhaps.

It is called the "Traveling Buddha".

Are there any seams that you can see like it was poured into a mold? The reason I thought jade was the little brown(tan) color inclusion between the feet.

Trying to determine this solely from an image is an impossible task. I can say, truthfully, that it has the proper color for some jades found in Asia. I can also say, truthfully, that there are many manufactured products that have the appearance of jade.

One thing is to look at the bottom of the piece. That can be a giveaway as to whether it's jade or synthetic.

I don't know about all, but "most" of the jade used in China now has to be imported. Seems I remember a friend in the jade business telling me that they used up their domestic supply long ago.

As for the 20-ton boulders, it all depends on the quality. The jade has to have the right colors, cannot be fractured, and several other things. Good amounts of quality jade is getting increasingly difficult to find. My friend was telling how they have several hundred tons (maybe thousands - can't remember) of jade, but it's not good enough quality for carving. Therefore, China won't buy it.

I have a piece of black jade from a mine in Washington. It is about 6 inches long, about 2.5 inches thick at the thickest, and has been cut and polished. Jade is chemically the same as serpentine, so most serpentine formations will have some jade.

Pretty sure it's resin or green glass, most likely resin. Two kinds of jade. Jadeite and Nephrite. Google them and look. China-nephrite/Burma-jadeite. Jadeite is much more rare...

Mold injected resin, They sell em at the mall in the Asian Import stores. Just a type of jade color hard polymer imo, but could be glass?.

I would have someone look at that. The detail is extremely fine......Usually the more detail the older the piece. The one thing that bothers me is there seems to be no patina to it....It's too clean.....Hard to tell for sure, but I would have someone, maybe from a local college in the area, check it.
