Found this at a well searched farm field site in Ohio. There have been alot of nice finds at this site. Found a 1786 New Jersey copper here a couple of weeks ago. My oldest coin so far! My E-trac battery was dead so I used the Garrett AT Pro. It read a "92".

Awesome find and a key date, congrats!!!

GlassDigger,
That is a great looking coin, Congrats! You have an eclectic group of detectors to work with:minelab, AT Pro, Sierra Madre. I was curious if you could shed some light on how/why you chose these machines.

Thank you in advance for your response..........63bkpkr

Well, I chose the E-trac because I seriously think it's the best machine out there for coin hunting. In the summer I hate getting rained out or I work in streams and rivers where I don't want to accidentally drop the e-trac and have it ruined. The Sierra Madre goes super deep. It is an all metal machine with a fifteen inch coil. Sometimes I am looking for really deep items like early railroad iron artifacts (Journal box covers, oilers, track chairs, telegraph items etc) that have been buried in the ditches along the old R.O.W's. I will have to say that I'm pretty impressed by the AT Pro seeing that it is 1/3 the price of the E-trac and waterproof to boot. I own the 15x18 SEF coil and the 6x8 sef for the E-trac. That 6x8 is excellent for trashy areas and from my experience it loses very little depth compared to the 11 inch pro coil. I still use the pro coil whenever possible. I still really haven't given the AT Pro a chance, I just got it this spring. I'll know alot more by the end of summer. Ironic that This is my oldest coin ever and I found it with the AT Pro.

Glassdigger,
Great find !!
What is the mint and denomination?
Don........

Well it's a two reales. Is there a mint mark on these? This is my first Spanish silver.

That is one really nice coin, what a great find.:hello2:
How about posting a review of the ATP on the Garrett forum this Fall after you have had a chance to use it for a while? It would be nice to get an good comparison from someone that has and uses both detectors.
I may be getting an E track for the same reason as you but I also wanted a machine that could water hunt so I got the ATP first.

Very nice! Dates to the first settlement of Schoenbrunn, before it was Ohio. HH and congrats, Mike

That's an awesome find! Finding big 1700s silver must be a real treat. Who knows when it could have been lost... They were in circulation until 1857 or so

The mint mark will be on the reverse (shield side) between "REX and "2R". I'm just guessing it will show as an "M" with a smaller "o" above the "M"--for Mexico City.
Don.....
I guess that part of the coin is wiped clean, The last letter I see before 2R is an A???

I would think that colonial coins are relatively rare for your neck of the woods. Great finds!!

very done well. I have 3 silver coins. 1775,1801, 1864. Congratulation.
