aye and don't forget "the fanny and jenny" -- 1864 a confederate side wheeler running fron nassau to wilmington NC running the blockage -- attacked by the uss florida on feb 10,1864 her capt ran her aground at the masonboro inlet and burnt her --rather than left her be taken -- in the past divers using scuba have checked the wrecksite for a gold sword that was presented to robert e lee that was aboard -- source is "potters" a treasure dives guide a oldie but a goodie -- Ivan
 

the Fanny and Jenny is under Crystal pier,as a kid living down the street I have seen her a few times when the water was real clear,and lost tackle on her a lot

We had one similar here on Oak island that would appear and disappeared with the storms moving the sand. The city along with Ft Fisher finally moved it from the beach and is now on display near the library.
 

I dont see any wooden dowels or bronze pins so it must be a wreck from the 1800's to the 1900's.
 

that part of a wreck covers and uncovers all the time-we had another one that would wash out and float down or up the beach and come ashore again-if you go to the sound at hatteras south of the old light tower there is a wreck up in the brush-down at the point over the dunes in the park service camp ground at the back ramp there is another wreck-as well as one out in the hook that is put together with wooden dowels-that covers and uncovers from sand movement.
