I acquired this coin from my grandmother who lived in Spain. I was young when I got it and she never told me where except that some "pirates" gave it to her. I feel that it could have real value since I believe it is from somewhere in the 16th or 17th century, because of the Crusader's Cross on the back of the coin. Pleas help if you think it could be worth anything substantial, thanks.

I think your best bet is to take it to a coin shop to have it authenticated. Most on here will probably have their doubts it is real I would think. However this is my first day, but I am not new to other treasure forums. Looks like this is your first post also.

so pretty...and shiny...I like it!

But, yeah, you should take it to a local shop and have it tested.
I hope it is real for your sake.

Welcome to TNet. The dubloon is priceless as it was a gift from your grandmother. To a collector of Spanish colonial coins, it is considered a fantasy piece and it's value is such.

It's a modern replica sold in tourist shops all over the caribbean. Worth about $1.

HI; Truth is no one here is 100% sure it is real or fake. If itv is real it is worth in the $40,000 PLUS range. Please take it to a "REPUTABLE" dealer or have it PCGS'd they will tell you "immediately if it is real or fake without question ok. Good Luck. Let us know. PEACE:RONB

Yes, I am sure. You can buy THAT EXACT ITEM all over at tourist gift shops. The giveaway is the complete lack of any specific details. It's generic shield design with illegible lines that are supposed to look like letters around the edges. Absolutely not real.

Jason you seem to be right I have seen some photos of this coin on the internet as replicas, however whats to say mine is real?

It would have specific things on it. the legend would be real, not random lines. The center shields would be recognizable and found in a catalog. What you have is not a copy of a coin, its a fake tourist piece.

I see you are probably right my grandmother was very knowledgeable and probably wouldn't have given me a valuable coin when I was so young.

Thank you don but I think this case is closed.

Nick,
You have nothing you need feel sorry about; it's a learning process each of us has gone through.
Keep asking your questions whenever you have them.
Don......

Yes, unless you have seen these before, its very easy to believe they are real. When I was 10, I dug 4 repro spanish pirate coins while metal detecting. I though they were real for a quite a while! It was quite disappointing to learn the truth. But they are still neat coins, I still have them, and I have a good story to go with them!
