Sorry its in Spanish. Long story short it mentions that Spain is not to happy based on the fact that treasure hunters have been recovering treasure from the 1715 fleet for so many years and selling it. Luis Lafuente subdirector of Patrimony said "we will fallow them until the end of the world" It says that after the victory over the Juno and La Galga they woke up and they were going to claim their rights to every vessel that was used by the government. Its says that The attorney of the Spain embassy in US James Goold is investigating every single article that comes out in the news and internet about Spanish shipwrecks. That right know the main focus is on Odyssey so the 1715 fleet will have to wait........

Chagy,

I translated it to English via G-chrome.

ABC News' applauds treasure hunters who continue to plunder the treasures of the Fleet of 1715. The Urca de Lima was flagship of the fleet in 1715 and since 1987 is a protected wreck. John Brandon and some of the treasures from ABC News encouraged to further plundering. Santiago Mata Madrid. "These gems have on the table worth $ 2 million. And that is what it is. " With these words concluded Marysol Castro, host of Good Morning America on ABC News, a story about treasure hunters who plunder the remains of the fleet in 1715, spread over 100 kilometers off the coast of Florida. A dozen boats Spanish sank during a hurricane in July 1715. Spain was bankrupt after the War of Succession and Felipe V needed money, among other things, to pay the dowry of his wife. So he ordered to leave Havana two fleets, the New Spain and Tierra Firme, newly arrived from Spain. They carried a cargo valued at 14 million pesos. Companies like Spanish Main Treasure treasure hunter Company sold these weights today-or pieces of eight-to 900 dollars apiece, so the lost treasure today could be given a value of 12,600 million (8,500 million euros). The treasure hunters, to know many details about the coins shipped yet his alleged knowledge of Spanish colonization with statements such as: Gold and silver were mined by Indian slaves "-appears in the certificates of authenticity accompanying currencies 1715 fleet of this company. John Brandon, one of the treasure hunter who appears in the report broadcast by ABC News on February 9, claimed in 2006 that the Treasure Coast "still between 40 and 50 tons of silver coins." That is, about one tenth of the cargo lost, given that the weights, pieces of eight contained 25.5 grams of silver, so that all the silver fleet in 1715 would be around the 400 short tons U.S., or just over 350 metrics. In the three centuries since that July 30 when 10 ships of the Fleet of 1715, only one was saved, the Griffon, crashed into the reefs in Florida, much has been looted, although still unaccounted for four of the ships. The cargo ship captain, the Urca de Lima, was the first to be recovered as treasure hunters euphemistically say: Only in that case it recovered themselves shipwrecked, then burned the ship to the waterline to prevent it Locate the English pirates. first protected wreck The wreck of the Urca de Lima, which as its name suggests was a reinforcement or supply ship, was also the first to be found in modern times found him William Beach in Fort Pierce in 1928, less than 200 meters from the beach and just five deep. Beach drew a dozen cannons and four anchors. In 1932, the State of Florida dicio a law that allows anyone to remove coins from the sea, provided it gives 20% to the State, when working within three miles of the coast. In 1987, Florida became the Urca de Lima in the first wreck protected its shores. And for good reason, since it is the only urea-transport ship flamenco-preserved in the world. At that time, Mel Fisher's treasure extracted Our Lady of Atocha while Spain looked the other way. Times have changed and in the 90 Spain claimed ownership of the frigates Juno and La Galga, sunk off the coast of Virginia. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Spain, on February 20, 2001, in a trial of mere formality, where a representative of the Spanish Armada merely confirmed that Spain did not renounce the ships were owned by the State or to its load. On January 20 last, President Clinton had signed with Spain a declaration of mutual recognition of ships. Nevertheless, it still cheering on television to take the gold from the 1715 Fleet. Luis Lafuente: "The will pursue to the end of the world" The fight against treasure hunters Odyssey, which last May took the treasure of a Spanish ship has aroused public opinion, and also to the authorities. That Spain has the right to ownership of the ships chartered by the State and its charge was clear, so it refers to the U.S., in 2001, the Supreme Court ruling on the Juno and La Galga and the previous presidential statement. The UNESCO Convention on Underwater Heritage of 2 November 2001 also prohibited from handling wrecks without permission of the country they belonged. The case of the Fleet of 1715, although in many cases by the violence of the sea and the frequent hurricanes just there are other boats, is similar to the above two frigates, which also discussed mainly by the load, to be the remains scarce. The Culture Ministry officials are awakening from a dream and returning to the command. Thus, the deputy director of Heritage, Luis Lafuente, told THE GAZETTE: "We are investigating everything that comes out in print and online. All reports on Spanish ships and even anonymous are investigated by the group of James Goold or embassy of Spain in the U.S.. Pursue until the end of the world, especially in the U.S. where the law now favors us. " On day 12, Dr. Elsa Alvarez of the University of Malaga, looked at the Madrid Bar Odyssey case. She said the actions of the Foreign Ministry and the Government of Andalusia, who moved to the Ministry of Culture, contravened the Act and the Coastal Heritage. The powers which the State delegates to the autonomous reversed when international implications or risk of illegal export. And reverse the ministry responsible for Heritage: Culture. The next confrontation of his lawyer, Goold, with Odyssey will be on March 5 in Tampa. Fleet of 1715 must still wait. Published in the Official Gazette on 25.2.2008, p. 36. Question: who promoted the issue Juno / Galga VS Sea Hunt? Find the answer and you will find the truth!

No one knows what ships are wrecked on the treasure coast. So they are all unknown pirate shipwrecks.Spain can Goold can stick it where the sun dont shine.

What a bunch of whiny *****es...If we can't have it, then nobody can have it! Leave it all on the bottom to rot!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Spain could do it's seriously FALTERING ECONOMY a whole lot of GOOD by inking deals with salvors to recover their goodies out there at say a 75 Salvor/25 Spain split...Not just on the TC, but anywhere their wrecks may lie...A direct contract with Spain would circumvent all the UNESCO etc. BS as the Salvors would be working (contractually) for Spain. I'm sure a lot more companies would dive in if they knew they wouldn't have to jump through all the hoops that are now in place. Recovery would still be conducted in an archeologically proper manner, not to keep the Archies sedated, but because that is the proper way to do it! Florida would lose it's 20% spiff, but who cares anyway?? There's probably too much of that 20 over the last 50 years that's sitting somewhere other then Tallahassee...
Spain has neither the money nor the means to recover 100 conq shells off Marathon Key, let alone mount any type of meaningful recovery op...

All sounds really simple and logical does it not?? Only in a perfect world before bureacracy became the order of the day...

Just my 2 reales...

Santini~

Gotta love it!

The issue of salvage rights of the 1715 Fleet has been long settled. The United States District Court determined the custody of the fleet in 1983. During the 1979 to 1983 case of Salvors Inc v certain unidentified shipwrecks, public notice was given to any person, state or country to come forward and present a claim. As we know, Salvors Inc (Mel Fisher) was awarded custody. So the same court that ruled in favor of Spain and determined the Odyssey case has already adjudicated the 1715 wrecks.

The most important fact that is being overlooked is that Spain salvaged the 1715 Fleet for 3 years following the sinking. They recovered approximately 75% of the registered silver and ultimately abandoned their salvage efforts. Maritime Law is well defined as to the rights of salvage for abandoned shipwrecks. None of the deepwater wrecks were salvaged, therein lies the problem with the Black Swan.
