This weekend, I took my first expedition to the South Yuba River and put in at Edwards crossing on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was cloudy and sprinkly, so not too many people on the river. Found time and space to run about 20 sample pans from 4 different spots near the water's edge, from rock crevices that had accumulated flood deposits, but...nothing!!
Sunday we got yelled at for panning by the recreational swimmers who complained we were making the water dirty...not even in their space...so annoying. Didn't pan much that day due to the crowding.
I ran each pan down to the fine sand and heavies, and I've done practice pans with gold in them, so I'm well aware of how to pan and how well gold sticks in a properly-agitated pan. Hubby, who has panned for many years, ran pans as well and both ouir techniques were good, but still found no gold at any stretch along the river. Don't think I was doing anything wrong per se, but just got no love!
Anyone else luckless on the South Yuba?
Humbug, indeed!
