Not sure if this has been posted, but..

There are many times that I have ran my coil and got a sound, but nothing on the VDI or the Depth finder shows up. I can repeat it, but I only get sound. How deep will the AT go? I ask this, because I normally don't dig signals that are deep, but I decided to. I dug down close to 2 feet, and I kept getting the signal, in the middle of the hole, but I never seem to get close to the object. Can the AT go down past 2 feet? Or was I getting a phantom?

It can go very deep depending on the size of a target, you were probably picking up a large piece of iron. One way I test a target is to lift the coil off the ground, if im still getting a signal with the coil lifted up a foot I will probably pass on it.

Do an air test on a silver item, once you get out of range where you are getting a vdi # you'll still get a faint tone.

Happened all the time when i used my ATP. Basically, there is a target, deep enough that the machine is picking it up but too faint to recognize the content. I have found coins like that, very deep in loose soil including a couple SMALL silvers. DIG'EM!! The best way to know your machine is to try to determine what it's trying to tell you by digging everything your path, especially the deep stuff. Remember...deep USUALLY means old. Good luck, happy hunting, Ddf.

Thanks for those tips guys. I will try them out.

You can take your pinpointed and go around the bottom of the deep hole. If you get a solid reading all around, you have a big something probably not a coin but could be a buried chest. And sometimes you may dig a deep small hole and the target will be in the sidewall when trying to pinpoint.
