With the small research I've done, I believe
this used to say Atlantic Coast Line. (circa 1900-1967)

It's silver plated, solid, non-magnetic and weighs a full 4 ounces.
And it was dug from almost a foot down in an area that I believe to
not be filled. Seems it got down there by time.

What I was hoping for was someone who is into silverware/railroads who might
know just what this was before it rusted away. It might just be me but I'm
thinking this is a pretty large handle for just regular eating. Maybe a special
knife or some such? It's so heavy and thick!

Thanks for any help.

Yep, I would agree. I did already know that and was hoping for someone to come along, that was really into railroad or silverware.
But, I guess there aren't any "Atlantic Coast Line" experts out there. :dontknow:

Thanks for trying!

I am not an expert on the ACL or RR silverware...however, I can provide a little more information on your item. It's a "Cromwell" pattern circa 1912 silver plated handle by International Silver Company for ACL. International Silver made pieces for many other railroads during the time period.

Your particular piece, as you mentioned, looks to be a little thicker. This particular piece most likely is the handle to a 8.5 inch blunt butter knife.

Hope this helps.

More information is what I wanted. Thanks for that!
I was hoping to maybe pin down a date by the pattern or some such but I already
know 1900-1967. :)

Thanks again!
