Not much hunting going on around here. It's either been raining and the weeds growing like...well..weeds or it's just been too hot. :P Did manage to get out a couple of times over the past few weeks. First site was a spot we weren't expecting to get to hunt. Turns out our information on an owner of a piece of land was wrong, but the lady was super nice and invited us to hunt her property. There is a 180 year old magnolia tree here. I've never seen one as big as this. Kept backing up and still couldn't get it all in the photo.....

It was like a big canopy underneath...no problem standing in there and admiring the size of this tree..

We didn't find much there, just a couple of wheat cents, couple of tax tokens (of which I offered to the owner) and this round thing...don't know what it is/was? Probably not worth a mention, but thought someone might see something here..

After spending a little time there, we found out from the owner where the folks lived that we were actually looking for. We headed over there for permission. Permission granted, but nothing there. After talking with a deer hunter a couple of days later, Lisa found out that somewhere in the area he had come across some old bricks on further up the hill.

Well Monday we headed back to the cabin site. Lisa had rode by and saw new dirt, so we had to check that out!

Doodled around and found a few snaps and another Excelsior button. Third one found there.

When we first arrived, no one was there working the machinery. I walked up and saw this purdy blue bottle just laying on top of the dirt. Now if you live around here, this bottle is like the prize of prizes to own! I was almost the happiest gal in Alabama! :D Till I realized the top was broken off. :-\

I wrapped it up so that I wouldn't cut my hand...

Even still with it being broken, I was excited to have found at least this much of it.

After a little bit, we headed back to the site from last week with new the information of the old bricks. The area he told about hadn't been cut and the hay was knee high. :-\ We walked around a bit all the while being weary of stepping on a snake or two. We decided to wait and cover this area later when it's been cut.

Stopped by an old place on the way home and snapped this pic....so nice to see the fields being cut.

I am looking forward to fall!

 RR

Great finds Love the Bottle and the ring! Iv got a local Calvert Bottle Im jonesen for here. Found a piece of one once, Calvert water works, but thats all, just part of the embosing. all the locals speak of it existing, but no one has one to show yet.

Thanks, V, Anne & Rob! :)

Johnny....I think it was VOL that said he thought those buttons were post CW. Dunno who had it? :icon_scratch: :D Thanks!!

Thanks, RJ & FF. :)

Still no rain, huh Judie? Wonder if they've had any in Harrisonburg? :icon_pirat: Always a pleasure to talk to ya! :-*

:o Shoot! I hope you can find one of those bottles, TC! Thanks!!

Nana :)

I typed "cute" in on my search engine and this post came up. Is that Modern Miner's pic on the little fellas t-shirt? That's a shame about the bottle, it's got super color. You are still the "Queen of tax tokens". You guys have some moisture in the ground there. I think I saw a dead camel in my front yard today. When Burt stops hunting yards-it's dry.
You gals had a good day. have faith, fall is upon us. Great post!!

Good huntin Nana. Love those old finds. I've lived in Bama for close to 50 years and don't think I've ever seen a magnolia that big. I bet there's a special find stuck in the roots of that thing. :o

Good Luck
Randy

That tree is huge.....Awesome time there......Thanks for the post...!!!!

I love reading your posts :read2: They are always intresting.Maybe you can teach some
of us the fine art of posting :notworthy:

Great Photos! and Nice Finds! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

I especially like the ring. The initials look like "I. FC." But I can see where you'd think "S. H." Intriquing!

Beauty of a bottle! I've heard of techniques to make a cut in bottles by filling with water to the level you wish to cut and then tying a kerosene soaked string around the neck at that same level....BUT I'd wait till someone with actual experience confirms this. :o

CUTE Vol! :D We've had so much rain here, that there are mushrooms growing everywhere! I hope you all get some rain up there soon! Thanks!!!

Thanks, Randy. It's the biggest Magnolia I've ever seen. :)

Thanks, RW. :)

Hey, Jim! :hello: Thanks!

Thanks, D. :)

Just tell it like it is, DD...and add a few pics. :D

Thanks, Joe! :) I think I'll let someone else handle the glass cutting. :D I'd ruin it for sure.

Thanks, V!

Hope you're all having a great weekend.

Nana

Even broken, that is a beautiful bottle! I love the ring, too; does it appear to be silver? Brass?

Thanks, 1/2. :) Well, I found the time to clean the ring today. To my surprise, it's plated. But still with it being so old, I'm fond of it.

Thanks, Bobbie 'n Dave! :)

Nana
