I found this site by researching old maps of my area. This site was likely active from 1840 – 1930, when the farm property was sold to a local horse breeder. Upon my arrival early last Sunday morning, I located the site within 15mins and started making good finds right away. The coins I found here were an 1833 ‘To Facilitate Trade Halfpenny Token’, a ‘holed’ 1887 Canada LC, an 1893 Canada LC and a 1919 Canada Quarter. Some of my other finds were a pocket watch key, a harness bell, a musket ball, and a ‘leg-less’ ceramic sheep, the ‘Maple Leaf’ CANADA pin came from another site a mile up the road.

What I didn’t expect to find here was a drone half-buried in the ground. This unit has obviously sustained a lot of plow damage and is missing most of its major components. There’s no camera, it’s missing 3 of its 4 propeller arms and there’s no SD card. I didn’t find any other parts from it over my 6hr hunt of the site. I plan on revisiting this site again in the spring after the cover crop is harvested.

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Great ID DCMatt
Why do I have the ZZ Top Legs ear worm now. :laughing7:
Gives you a reason for a return hunt to look for those legs Dave-it also answers my question (in my head) on attaching those legs-Matt's pics answers that nicely showing the wires.:occasion14:

I did an online search for ceramic polar bears, but found none that resemble the one I found. :icon_scratch:
A ceramic polar bear of a similar vintage made by the Hertwig Co. of Germany, recently sold online for $125us/$162cdn.

So maybe having this bear restored might not be out of the question. :laughing7:

Congratulations on a super hunt,,
Thanks very much buddy.

Nice finds!
Some of the more basic drones just keep flying if they get out of range of the controller.
I have had to run like a madman over hill and dale to get close enough to turn them around when a dust devil or big gust pushed it up out of range.
They can go for miles with a good tailwind til the batteries run down...

Thanks very much for sharing this information terrafirma, I honesty had no idea. :dontknow:

As I mentioned, almost all of the homes that are anywhere near this site were built in the last three years.

Can you tell by looking at the pic how old this drone might be? :icon_scratch:

Thanks,
Dave

Very nice finds! Hopefully the drone is not from a developer looking in to a new site, albeit a few years ago.

I won't "drone on"..... but those are some really nice finds!!

Another nice hunt! Yes, the drone would be a surprise. I found one in the woods a couple of years ago while detecting. Never really looked at it carefully but it still has a camera and card I think. Might be a nice winter project to figure it out.

Yeah, I have no idea how it got there, but terrafirma's suggestion made a lot of sense.

Hi Nick, how're you doing my friend? :hello:
This unit is pretty chewed up, as if it's been sliced and diced by the plow disks for many years.
It's hard to tell if the major components were actually removed and the unit was then simply tossed away.
This site runs along side a major road, so maybe someone threw it out the window of a passing car.

But, I found it a good 30' from the road and I didn't find anything else 'modern' that may have been part of the drone. :icon_scratch:
Hope you're doing well,
Dave

Hey Dave I'm doing fine!:hello:
Sometimes I think drones can get blown off course I think or lose contact with the remote? I wouldn't be surprised if some folks lose them the first time out because they don't know how to fly them yet! :laughing7:
Here's the remote that I found a few years back... and yes that is snow on our deck this morning!
Have a Great Weekend!
Nick

That drone was a great find Nick. :o
I've been playing with the idea of investing in a drone, mainly to use for better pics of the sites I'm hunting.

But, that's something that will have to wait until I've found a job. :laughing7:
Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend, means an extra hour of sleep tonight.
