I have tried everything I have read on the internet and nothing seems to help clean this. Any ideas? Thank you! ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1535245188.217230.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1535245234.929040.jpg

Try Whink rust stain remover. Just the stuff in the brown bottle. Their other products won't help.

Whink is pretty mild but it will get the stain out eventually. Cleaning natural crystals is often a very slow process but the results can be very nice if you have the patience.

I had good results with full strength Oxalic acid. Be sure to wear protective clothing and don't breathe it in. The Oxalic acid can be neutralized with Lye or baking soda.

I tried that. I used cool water and put the oxalic acid in there. Tell me how you did it. Does it take more than one time? Would hot water help?

heat helps with OA, I put hot water from the bathtub in a 5 gallon bucket, about half full, with about a half pound of OA then I put a lid on the bucket and set it in the sun for a couple days.

Have you tried a stiff steal brush? I have used Sea Foam. It's for your auto but it cleans. Get it at Stuffmart. Good luck.

A steel brush is not far off. Some use a small sandblaster. The "stuff" on the quartz could be clay or something similar that doesn't dissolve so easily.
You need to understand first and foremost what you are trying to clean off; else it usually ends up being a random experiment session. :)

(though, sometimes a experiment session is needed)

Before you clean anything you need to know what your trying to remove. A good thing about quartz is it's resistant to a lot of solvents and acids. What do you think in on your rock? Once you ID that then the solution is easier.

I'll be interested to see how it cleans up however I'm not so sure it'll help much. There appears to be a lot of pitting and inclusion by what minerals are coating it. Might go better to try hand polishing a section of it with emery paper.

All I can say here is WOW at what you found. That is so incredible. My dirt doesn't have things like that hiding.

It is a super nice cluster. Good luck with your efforts to clean it. If it were me, I would first try diluted 1:4 pool grade muriatic acid (do this outside and with caution). It won't affect quartz. Before you give it a complete bath, try it on a small spot so you don't ruin your sample. You will know fairly quickly if it is working.

More important. Go back to the spot and get more. ;-)
