Someone had flint fever..........

Yeah thats the slack farm.

Yeah I remember reading about that place in National Geographic. Nothing special really being a Mississipian site other than what happened after the tractor rental.
This from wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slack_Farm

The looting of Slack Farm contributed to the passage of more stringent laws in the state of Kentucky relating to the protection of burials, sacred grounds, and indigenous/archaeological sites. The damage done to Slack Farm attracted worldwide attention and was written about in National Geographic Magazine,[2] prompting widespread outcry against illicit removal of antiquities.

I've had that fever before...

Nice lonestar!!! I'd love to have one of those, do you have any info on where a person can buy those?

I could swear he posted last year when we were all showing our sifting gear and I think he made it. I think he said he charges x amount per day to rent it out. Looks brand new in the picture.

Hey Guys, Yeah I posted this whenever the conversation turn to digging !! I had it built by a bud of mine who is better at this sort of thing than me. I don't lend underware or my sifter. You could buy or build one to your own specs. and using all new metal and mechanics its about $7500. He's since built a few for other friends since mine.
I can go thru a yard of average dirt in about 5 minutes when I got it cranked.
Its a real simple rule to remember: More dirt means more flint.

Those pics were when I had it painted. Lone Star

The Slack Farm incident was super unfortunate and a real black eye for the hobby. What a shame.

I don't think there was enough time jarhead lol. Hey why in the world can't you find anything ? :icon_scratch: I don't beleive I could get that sifter up to any of my spots. I haven't ever used a sifter, seems like more work to me, the way I dig I'm practically sifting anyway. I could see myself missing the occasional birdpoint or bead though.

no-till is a drag......
Like I totally get what your sayin man. When I heard that they were not gonna till anymore I was like "oh no they ain't gonna till anymore." :tongue3:

Even if I were allowed to dig a site like that it would feel WRONG digging up people. Dang thats just very very sad and wrong.

hate to say it but, we will be digging up and building over are cemetaries within 200 more years, at least they were untouched for a few thousand, i dont see any harm in digging a site up like that ( camp only) they are long gone and we are not screwing up are future by doing it, just getting the stuff and seeing what was in the ground before we build over it all.
