This was found some time ago. All evidence points to Poland, but I really need a few opinions to help my conclusion. This was found in Hocking County Ohio (South Bloomingville) I hope this is not a replica of some sort, it was found at a elementary school. It is very light in weight but has a nice silver ring. Any ideas?

If you google polish eagle that's what it looks like to me ???
yes it looks like to me too but I think we need to consider that our member from Poland says it is not. He says it "looks like a "happy creation of a maker".

So a "happy creation of a maker" means that someone made this in they're spare time? Ive searched and searched online for something similar but have not found ANYTHING.

The bird definitely looks like a Polish eagle, but if the guy from Poland says it isn't it probably isn't. Whatever likeness it is supposed to represent, it appears to be some sort of medallion or pendant.

Maybe he will come back and explain. He doesnt recognize it. I think he means its a fictional created image.
With my NONexpert opinion it could be a German eagle as well. :dontknow: http://images.google.com/imgres?img...E-SearchBox&rlz=1I7GGLR_en&sa=N&start=20&um=1 But I am thinking its a fictional created generic eagle from a cothing line. It has absolutely no corrosion and was found at an elementary school. Im thinking modern zipper pull. I wish I knew the size it might help. Can you tell me?
How deep was it? How old is the school?

I don't know BigC, why would there be a an image on both sides of it? Also, by the looks of the dead leaves around it, it looks to be pretty good size. I'm guessing just like everyone else :laughing9:

Your guessing on the size of the leaf. ;D

I dont know... reversible? :D The cameo on the other side appears to me to also be generic.

Yep, that's about all I'm good for. I think both images are pretty generic too. Like I said before, if it was a coin it must have been shaved down. No signs of date, denomonation, or any other indicators as to country of origin. I still think the eagle is Polish or German. Russia used the eagle, but the damn thing has two heads!!!

This WWI Polish eagle has a crown very similar:

http://www.jkmilitaria.com/Poland.html

It's not a match, however it does appear the eagle was based on Polish eagle design.

Sniffy can you post a better pic of the princess?

I'd say this peice in whole is equivalent to the size of a Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Mind that I do not have this item, nor did I find it. I'm helping a friend who discovered this in Ohio and he's not really "up to speed" with computers and pictures. However, his wife may be able to take a better photo (front and back) with a size indicator. I apologize for the vague description and pictures I have posted they are not a very good visual guide besides the obvious. Bare with me, I will try and get better photo's.

Half dollar size. OK thank you. I didnt realize it was that large. Kinda big for a clothing zipper pull.

I still think its a recently lost item because of lack of any corrosion.

BTW start writing your reply after [/quote] and it should look right.

BTW the leaf in the picture is a Sycamore leaf which are larger than most other leaves.

I tend to agree with BCH that it looks like aluminum. It may not have been in the ground that long, however it could still be a relative old piece. Wouldn't be the first time a kid lost a show and tell on school grounds.

Sniffy hope you'll be able to get hold of your buddy.

Same as me. I found no clue neither.
That's why I did not write, sorry Sniffy .
