Found two of these while digging for artifacts. It is not glass. Will not even melt at 1000°c. It will scratch glass but doesnt test as a diamond. Under a scope you can see vien type lines covering the surface. Cupping pits on surface where pieces have chipped out but no fracture line bubbles or inclusions. Has a pinkish color but crystal clear after firing at hot temperatures. Its is farely light weight. Totally looks like glass but is not. Any ideas out there would be much appreciated. Thanks

Ok, my last 2 pennies here digordie,
I have narrowed it down to man made glass or natural quartz, b'cause you recovered it from a couple ft. of soil, in a silty clay layer of ground
and most of it's surface is rounded and smooth prolly from runnin water, I'm sayin quartz. I know it's NOT obsidian, the only other thing
it might have been (short of man-made glass). Man made glass could not have been worn so smooth in justa 100 yrs., but there's so much one can learn
on there own from just one website, one of 100's, here, go here, not just you but all who have commented on this thread. If you can afford coffee filters
and internet service, you can afford the couple little tools ya need, but more important, need to do more readin!

..lightning forming glass?

I can't say for sure on this question, but anything is possiable due tot he fact I've visited my aunts home in TN where in her back yard they have whats called "Day Light Bursts" or daylight lightening strikes.. Afterward I would enter the field where I noticed the strike.. and found shards or limestone.. burnt.. Thou in this same field I found nearly 200 ill formed thunder eggs.. Could this be where the "thunder" egg gets its name.. we will have to explore her field more again soon.

Several tiems I've attempted to post pics via my storage server.. yet everytime I try to so.. the server is slow loading.. this has been going on for weeks.. I'll get soemthing up when I'm able to access my images.. As for what "others" have told you about thunder eggs.. I would have to say this is one area I excel in.. seeing how this was the firts are that actually got me started in searching for stones/rocks/crystals.. My personal beleif is that they are not the same as a geode.. yet can contine many of the same characteristics. Also.. I like when others post image "Not of their own" that rediect users to differant pages and not of their own.. Yes I have both, geodes and thunder eggs.. and as soon as I get this issue corrected with my image service.. I'll post pics.
