Hottest day of the summer...felt like. I guess if you're gonna dig 25 pennies at least if they are Indian Heads it's alright.

Coins
20 IH
5 wheat
2 buffalo nickels
2 shield nickels
1 liberty nickel
2 2 cent pieces... 1864 :hello2: and 1865 (first of these for me)
3 merc dimes
3 barber dimes
1 unk

...and the buttons, (12) most civilian with a few back marks I have not tackled yet... and the prize Artillery button (any thoughts on the star backmark?)... rimfire casings, lillte shoe (?) buckle, a few musket balls, pocket watch and what I rekon is a chunk of mortor or cannonball... 9.6 lbs... and not to mention the proverbial poop load of trash.... but I had all day to look and all night to sort through it and drink big Fosters Lagers (my peeps out of town).

Good times.

If I dug 20 indian heads in one day I think my head would explode.

Things I dream about... machine kept beeping and beeping, old Tesoro Silver...... penny trash penny trash penny penny penny trash bigger coin penny trash button and so on and so forth....it was unreal.... funny thing, like my signature line says, when I asked permission to look, the lady suprisingly said sure but her friend had already done it. I could see where he'd been, dug about 10 pieces of trash, didn't cover his holes and must have given up....another guy pulled up in a truck and told me I wouldn't find "nuthin"...lol

I would sure love to find a hunted out place like that! DANG that is impressive. When are you going back?

Great finds! Good luck on you next picked over spot.

HI BOB!

You have me eating my heart out. What a great hunt, way to go.

Heck of a dream hunt right there... Great coins and yes those are pieces of exploded artillery, heck of a hunt. Big Congrats :icon_thumright:

The more I look at it, the more I want to hear from Cannonball Guy. There couldn't be many land-based artillary pieces in that neck of the woods with a bore THAT size!

I'd take a hunt like that anytime! Especially after someone told me it had been hunted before :>)

I've come to believe that the words "it's already been hunted , you prolly won't find nuthin" are about the nicest words anybody could say
to me !

Wow that's an insanely awesome hunt. I have only found two Indian heads this year they are eluding me lol. The artillery button and pocket watch are really sweet too

Thanks for the comments, I began to curse that pocket watch out loud, as it was a royal pain the you know what... who knew there were so many little gears in one of those that would get scattered amongst a bunch of pennies for someone to dig up so many years later.

The buttons... look better face down actually, kind of like my.... ah nevermind :laughing7:

Robinson Extra Rich (smooth face)
Wellington (smooth face)
Standard Colour (outer ring) Treble Gilt with crown (inner ring) /// smooth face
Kendrick & Co Super Fine (flower pattern).. 1830's I think
* on the Artillery (maybe more than 1)

3 small buttons have backmarks but I can't cipher them. Cleaned the one up a little.
Weird how the big flat button was bent, almost like it it was rolled...

and the buckle, thanks for bringing that to my attention...closer look I see it is marked with a V.G. on both sides. Still works perfectly... sharp too....

I will visit this spot again soon.

I don't think I've ever heard of so many Indian Heads found on one hunt, incredible! And the other finds would make a memorable hunt by themselves. Please tell us that you at least had a handful of clad mixed in as well-- lol. Something tells me you'll be finding a lot more the next time you are at that site.

Amazing assortment & 20 IHs-Wow. "You won't find nuthin'"..... Gotta be a half dime there.
