Ok, this is a tough one. Found this where I found cw bullets and the "baldric device" I posted earlier. You can note the size as I'm holding it. There is a faint etched eagle with deterioration on the right side of the eagle. There are two lines of script below. The eagles tail is just above the top of the letters ending with "NSON". There is a faint outline of the two wings. Given the positioning of the eagle, it looks post 1900. Sorry about the image sideways. What is it? IMG_1005.JPG

Tigerdude, is the flat bottom of the item split, like it could have been attached to a leather strap? It may be possible that the bottom word is "Sheffield," a major blade making city. It could be the metal end of a razor strap. Cool find! Sub 8-)

I'm betting there is another letter on the left end of the first word. Maybe an initial?

That may be the clue that puts us on track to ID this thing.

To my eye, it is older than 1900. Stll no clue what it might be though...

DCMatt

Possibly:

ROBERSON
SHEFFIELD

well i didnt want to say much but there is a hole at the top where a small chain or string could go through. Not a big hole, though.

Am I the only one who thi ks it looks like .N5 not sons or son

I see what you are seeing. I'm 50/50 on whether or not it is a '5'. It seems to put the centering of the word off a bit.

Pretty sure it is not an 'S' but could be environment damage that looks like a character.

In your opinion, is the hole for hanging or mounting?
