This looks like some type of quick clip or something, it was found at a place that had a small military encampment in the late 1870s, can anyone help identify what it is? also as a side note all the copper and brass objects found there had a very deep green patina , ive seen that before but in this place everything was covered with it very thick , is there any environmental factors that would hasten the green patina?
Thanks for any help.

Just enough energy for one reply-post today. It is the shoulder-strap holder from a US Army Model-1874 swordbelt. The one from the Model-1859 (designed by J.E.B. Stuart) looks similar but lacks the Model-1874's "crossbar" seen in your photos. See the photo below.

Perfect thats it for sure , Cool , now I just need to find the plate . I did find a sword plate about 1/4 mile away in the same area but it is probably from another rig. Thanks for the help!
Also I know you know your stuff , would you mind looking at this thread and see if you can identify it.http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/588095-metal-top-cork-any-ideas.html
