Metal Detecting
(Chien-Lung Dynasty) Chinese Coin!!! I just wanted to check in and show everyone some of my more recent digs. Ever since my father passed it's been hard picking up my detector and going out. We would hunt together early in my relic hunting days and when he couldn't dig anymore I would always go over his house and dump my finds on his work bench after each relic outing I went on. We would then, together, pick up each relic and study it and talk. It's hard.................. Well anyway I found a new spot that is predominantly Rev War. The first hunt there I found a lone shoe buckle late in the day. The second hunt I found 2 shoe buckles and a brass ram rod guide to a flintlock rifle. This is only the second ram rod guide I have found in 30 years of hunting . The fancy die work of the shoe buckle in the top left picture is my favorite. The intricacy is just amazing! These are more than likely French and usually just found in pieces. I really love this one! I also found one lone musket ball. This place, as most in my area, has been hit hard! I am hoping on a return visit I might get lucky and dig a Frenchie button! The third trip there I found a Civil War Company letter "D", a piece of a Civil War shoulder scale, and of all things..... 10 inches down a copper Chinese Dynasty coin! This is the first I have ever found. I found a pdf guide on the internet that helps date these and I am going to try to decipher what time period this might have been minted. Apparently every 40 to 50 years they changed a little and believe it or not they can date all the way back to the early 1600's! Either a French soldier that was here in 1781 had it in his pocket and lost it or someone visiting this area years later dropped it. I guess it could have been a Civil War soldier as well! I will let every one know the date when I solve the mystery. I know this time of year digging is slow and the weather is not cooperating at all............. but I hope everyone is getting out a little and is well. HH Devonrex

MAN WHAT A NICE BUNCH OF FINDS.

Those shoe buckles are just amazing. Sorry about your dad. I hope relic hunting becomes a way of healing for you. I have a very hectic job and sometimes stepping into the forest is so therapeutic. The finds are just icing on the cake. Take care DRex

Really nice recoveries John. Those show buckles are stunning. I hope you turn up a regimental button soon.
