Some Recent Finds: Wax Seal, Old Silver, Buttons & More!

Tomorrow marks the 10 year anniversary of the purchase of my first metal detector. It took me almost exactly 10 years to dig my "find of a lifetime". I had some time over the weekend to make a chronology of the last decade, so check out the short video.

I am still digging some nice goodies, including the wax seal I dug last weekend while out with Elad. It was more than 12 inches deep and the only indication anything was beneath the coil was a slight rise in the threshold of my V3i. On a deep target, that is a good enough reason for me to dig. I also dug 5 buttons that day, all civilian with common backmarks and the piece of a colonial buckle. (If any of you have the other half, let me know!) The shiny tombac button was found at another site on a previous hunt. The site was littered with trash and is a well known detecting spot. What is odd is that this was on the surface. I think some noob found the button and tossed it aside as trash!

The Barber Dime and the buttons pictured with it all came from the field I dug the Flowing Hair Half Dime earlier this month.

I am looking forward to sharing my finds with you all over the next decade!

You dug some nice Colonial artifacts, Neil. I really like the ornate shoe buckle piece. It looks like you dug a Blowhole button as well. :dontknow: :icon_scratch: Thanks for sharing your decade and may the next ten be even better. :icon_thumleft:

That is a blowhole button for sure. My only one so far!

Good video and great finds :icon_thumleft: Jim

Re: Some Recent Finds: Wax Seal, Old Silver, Buttons & More!

Neil, did you find that buckle in the first field? I think I have a small piece of it. In the group shot of my recent post it is propping up the regiment button.

Re: Some Recent Finds: Wax Seal, Old Silver, Buttons & More!

I forgot to add... I also found a blow hole button. I have never heard or seen of such a button until now. What's the deal with them? Are they colonial?

Actually, the buckle should be with the Barber Diime and the blowhole buttons and came out of "Flowing Hair Field". I think blowholes are early-mid 18th century, but not too sure

Neil, It's my 10th year also!!! Send me some of your "MOJO" cause I'm headed out the door before this storm hits us. Going to the spot I found the 2 GW's. Lookin' for the other 2, or at least, a nice coin! Wish me luck..............Hogge

That is what I said when I dug it, but my friend "corrected" me saying it was the top of a wax seal.

Thanks for all of your comments!

Hey Neal,

Great finds, but I must say I am really impressed with your video production skills and your excellent choice of Underture from the Who's Tommy as the background music. Rock on brother!

Thanks, Bill. Nice work on the ID...I was wondering how many people would have said it was "Sparks". In fact, "Sparks" was my original choice but the running time was too short and I thought the name "Underture" was more appropriate for metal detecting.

Needless to say, it's been 40 years, more or less, since we first heard the Who; though it's been about a year since I've seriously listened to them. You've now inspired me to pop Tommy in my Bose Surround System as I'm on the road tomorrow!

Re: Some Recent Finds: Wax Seal, Old Silver, Buttons & More!

...as I commented on your YT channel, this is what it's all about. Congratulations on a wonderful decade and your progress.
:occasion14: To many more!
