Various bullets and other artifacts found at the Port Gibson, Mississippi, Battlefield

I found these two flattened bullets in the same hole - the smaller bullet has four tick marks carved into it - I suspect they were used as gaming tokens

Artifacts found at the Champion Hill Battlefield - this battlefield is only about six miles from my house, and I have spent a lot of time there.

This is the only Confederate manufactured button I have found so far - A block I - it has a lot of crud on it, but I have been scared to try and clean it.

Artifacts from the Big Black River Battlefield - This battlefield is still being farmed, so many of the bullets show signs of being struck by a plow

Close-up of one of the musket balls I found at the Big Black - it has been flattened and a hole driven through it with a square nail. It was probably used as a sinker for fishing.

Bullets from in and around Vicksburg, both Union and Confederate

I found this US Cartridge Box Plate at a skirmish site near Vicksburg

Most of these artifacts were found in or near Vicksburg

Close-up of some of the buttons - most of the civilian buttons I eyeballed down by the Mississippi River where they had eroded out of the bank

Remains of a Union canteen stopper and a small roller buckle that I pulled out of the mud with leather still attached
