Thought of that, also noted that the disc in the picture may not be cupped but actually flat on both sides, it could be a heavy-duty application from years back, semi, bus etc.

I`m familiar with automotive applications back to the late 40`s but not familiar at all with anything larger than a school bus. The resemblance is to great to simply dismiss imho.

Any old-timers out there that could shed light on the possibility?

EDIT: would the canvas or cloth cover of a wagon have used this type of fastener to keep attached to the sides of a wagon, using a spring for "give" in case of wind or heavy rain?

It looks like the remains of a handle from a 2-man/crosscut saw .

I saw this and ran out to my garage half naked `n barefoot to look at the one i have hanging
on the wall, either your messing with the fool you KNEW was going to run out to his
garage barefoot `n half naked or the saw you refer to is somewhat older. :icon_salut:

Mine uses square headed hardware (nut/bolt) with 1/4 thick washers that are recessed into the
handles. ;D

It's an early eyebolt. One use was to hold the tongue on a wagon but had other uses also. Tony

It appears that the end with the nut was placed into something rather thick (probably wood) with a drilled hole, then the nut was put on and tightened. As it was tightened it pushed the brass thingy toward the loop which tightened around something cylinder shaped. From the wear evident on the brass thingy, the cylinder (likely wood) vibrated or moved or loosened. If the cylinder was the right diameter, this would apply alot of clamping pressure.

Why does the picture show only partially on the right side of the screen ????????
because his picture is too large for your screen. You can see the hidden part of his picture by clicking on the arrow underneath his pic. He could have resized for those of us with small screens.
