Hmmm?

Southern, NJ
Found on the beach in New Jersey.
At first I thought it looked like a small hand grenade? Perhaps a bottle of some sort?
It could be just a very interesting rock? :tongue3:
Appears to have some sort of cross-linear pattern on the surface, which has been worn by the surf.
Texture is stone-like..
Weight is heavier then a stone of that size..

Thank you for your help..
Terry

Hey Hill..

Yes, my boyfriend does have nice hands Man Hands, doesn't he?
He's my assistant in the never ending search for old treasures..
(He also carries the heavy bag of possible "non-treasures")

Just a newbie here...
Thank's for your encouragement. :notworthy:

No need for the not worthy icon, I was just kidding around when I saw your avatar and then saw the man hands. Welcome to Tnet and good luck in your quest to find treasures. Your find does look like sedimentary rock to me as well.

Hill

Thank you for the welcome Hill :)
It's nice to meet you.

Yes, quartz rock will register as metals. But I think, steel registers on my detector as iron / silver. What detector did you run with? Those that run with that model may be more of an assistance on you here. If it's heavy, there may very likely be metal in there too. I'll tell you, NJ beaches are full of metal conglomerate mixtures of all kinds. I know that, personally. It does have a grenade shape to it, very interesting. When in doubt, you could always go to the airport or veterinary hospital, as I did, and see what you may be holding with a simple X-ray. Let me know what you find out, good luck!!! :newbie:

Thank you for the info liqui....
Could you imagine going to the airport with this rock that looks like a hand grenade..lol
I can see the headlines now... lol You'd definately see me on the 6 o'clock news.

The detector is a Discovery 1100. Bought it at Radio Shack, about 1 1/2 ago just for fun and never used it.
I found this rock without the detector but, when I came home ran the detector just to see what registered.
Thanks again liqui..

:hello2: Thank you Hmmm2
if you need it, i to got your back.
you can trust me when i say, its granite with quartz veins in it.
:read2: you may already know but, a prospectors tool is a magnate on a string.
pass it by the granite to see if it has magnetite in it. if it swings to the rock , thats a good sign.
:read2: have a look at these pictures. :icon_sunny:
Thanks for the information Hmmm1.
I'll try the magnet on a string trick in my future searches.
I'm glad I joined this site.. I'm learning quite a bit. ;D

Thanks again..
