A thin sharp metal star with little holes in it. I have no idea what it is. It is very sharp. I don't know what the ringed thing is and any thoughts on age of knife would be nice. Thanks!
Its so corroded Cindy, I dont think you would be able to tell. I believe the ID is correct. It has bumps all over it.I can even see metal remnants on one side of the star..cdsieg said:Thanks for the question and the reality check, the answer is, no. I do not see any signs of parts removed or broken off.SODABOTTLEBOB said:P.S. ~
I may not be the only one who has wondered how it was possible for a cookie cutter to have lost it's handle and cutting edge? If in fact it even had them to begin with. Which leads me to suspect it might not have been a "cutter" per say, but rather a "pattern" type where the user cut along the edges with a knife as opposed to just punching it out.
Question for cdsieg: Are there any tell-tale remanents of where a handle and full perimeter cutting edge used to be soldered to the star?
Thanks.

The holes do go all the way through the star.Tuberale said:bigcypresshunter's cookie cutter sure looks similar, but has holes that clearly go all the way through the metal. In reviewing the original photos, don't see any hole which is through the metal. Are there complete holes, or has the "thin sharp star" rusted completely, filling the holes? Also, bigcypresshunter's cookie cutter looks more aluminum than what seems to be ... iron, maybe? Something that rusts, at least.
Can you check whether the holes are completely through the metal, cdsleg?
It is all fun to me, and I like the fact that you and others take guesses (mostly educated guesses) on my rusty gold. Even though sometimes I ask what something would be worth, it doesn't really matter to me. I like to know the value on things if I plan to donate them to a museum or leave them with a landowner. It is just my curiosity if I do ask the value. Now if I came across a treasure or gold bars... then that would be another story!bigcypresshunter said:We ID broken and corroded remnants of items like this for fun but you realize its so damaged there is probably no monetary or collector value and it cannot be restored.
LOL, I try to remove it, but even when I use the rust remover, it looks rustier when I am done! Any suggestions would be great! Do you like my green background? LOLbigcypresshunter said:We could call you "The Queen of Rust" but we already have a gal with that nickname lol.![]()
Now if I could only get it to make me some darn cookies, then I would REALLY have something cool! Thanks for your feedback and compliment on the new photos. CindySODABOTTLEBOB said:cdsieg ~

I too am convinced now that the star is some type of cookie cutter. But who can say for certain what went on way back when? Maybe it never had the cutting sides and was more of a stencil type requiring the user to cut along the edges with a knife. Thus, my reason for suggesting (based on the evidence) to more accurately ID it as a cookie "Stencil" as opposed to a cookie "Cutter."
But even with that said; if it looks like a cookie cutter and walks like a cookie cutter, then its a dang cookie cutter! Right?
Nice ID Big Cy. Congrats!

Yes. If you have any special pieces, you could use electrolysis but you need someone else to explain the process.cdsieg said:LOL, I try to remove it, but even when I use the rust remover, it looks rustier when I am done! We can only say its "most likely" a cookie cutter and I could be wrong.. In the pic I posted, the star actually overhangs the cutting edge that may have just been tacked on and broken off.SODABOTTLEBOB said:cdsieg ~
