I was wondering seeing everyone enjoys this hobby on this forum. Of course everyone has different yrs of experience. What is number yrs of experience of hunting you have? And when you reply I would also like to know the periods you have the most experience of finding artifacts from.
I believe this will be very educating for allot of people including myself. Be honest please when you post your yrs of experience.
Thanks, rock

Found my first artifact about 13 years ago, but it took a couple years before I found out it was an artifact. Been hooked and looking for about 11 years now.

not long for me,when i put up my first post on here,is when i started.found lots of good points though already, got to be the area i guess.

I can remember hunting with my dad when I was probably 4 years old. It's been off and on since then. More on than off. I'm almost 32 years old now. I started doing research and looking for more than points in recent years. Probably 5 years of study/hunting.

A lil' over twenty thousand hours...(from 1984....)

I've been walking fields for about 25 years. I got actively involved in local archaeological societies about 20 years ago. I've been seriously collecting for about that long. By seriously collecting I mean visiting collections, attending auctions, shows, events, etc. Usually I hit about 15 shows and another 5 to 10 auctions a year.

I actually found my first point when I was around 6-7 yrs old. My parents owned a piece of property on an ocean inlet in Va. I still have it some place but cant find it. I didnt really have interest for them again till about 2 yrs ago. Thats rite I am still a newbie to the hobby but truly enjoy it. I just wanted to see how many experts we had in our forum. Thanks to everyone who has been honest. I wish everyone would respond so we could see who the experts really are, even though I am not a expert I do enjoy the thrill of the hunt and cant wait till I get to flip the next piece of flint to see what treasures have been left for me to be found.
Thanks, rock
I forgot to add that probably 60% I find is Archaic Period. 40% Woodland and Mississippian.

then in 1964 walking the dry creek bed of ward creek and found a few pieces and an old 55/70 shell casing from the battle of ward creek
also in 1964 two friends and myself found a cache of the cheerio size missouri river mussel shell beads........they were on the top of a bluff and partially covered with dirt.......

About 55 years. Primarily the plains village farmer era, which ran from about 800 AD to 1400 AD, in SW Oklahoma. I go out and document new sites, and check out all the known sites to make sure they're still intact. I am proud to say I've located about a dozen previously unknown sites (villages, workshops, kill sites) and reported them to the Oklahoma Archeological Survey at OU. Whole different playing field here in Colorado, but there are some very sharp people here I am learning from.

Somewhere around 1976,around five years old my first trip with pop down the river looking. It's been on like pop corn every sense.8-)
Take Care,
Pete,:hello:
