So, have you ever broken your "Be Silent Rule" on a find?

I take pics, which is a dead give away.
I can usually contain the excitement. However when the machine “tricks” me, by indicating a good target, then I dig it and junk comes out of the hole, I get mad. More than once, I have received a surprised look from someone, when a stream of especially nasty obscenities was overheard. I tend to cuss the machine or the piece of junk.

When water hunting, I have a magnet in my scoop with a beat up corona bottle cap stuck to it, that way I always have a junk item to show the people close by (, while I palm the jewelry ) that I’ve found junk. Has worked real well.

My experience is if your hunting with friends and your finding modern silver, cool have a good time. Its when you start getting into the old sites people get weird. So and so found a few coppers and so and so could not make it or didn't find any themselves. Tension mounts and next thing you know your an "a**h*le'.. Meaning me. Lol 100% another story.

I'm not saying I'm captain America with a metal detector but if your really good at Somthing and you take a few ' green horns ' out and people are digging 1840s coins and stuff right away. I could of taken then to dig for mercy dimes&wheats. No I went for broke and put the on an old site. Finds we too good they thought I planted it. Few reales. No this is fake. Ok then if its fake I will give you 20 bucks right here. My point is I don't think they appreciated the history. Edit: If I was out metal decting and invited a YMCA or group of bsa out and one of the kids made an Awasom find I have nothing to do with it, (, I just find the sites) ... 1837 large cent, cool to see kids find history.

If they ask why your taking pictures of dirt, let them know you are into worm porn. I will take a pic if I am alone, if in a crowded area, I sit the find on the console in the vehicle and take a pic to send my friends on a group text. I've got many from you especially at your latest honey hole. I'd love to see a video of you cussing out your Deus Tom, I bet the other manufacturers would to.

I have already made a post in this thread, but I wanted to add that in addition to the trash and "pennies and pull-tabs" reply, in a separate pocket in the coin pouch, I also carry two rounds of live ammo, "of the many I have dug", one is a .40 cal. and the other is a .22long, that had been tossed around in a lawn mower. Now, IF approached by "certain" people, I will mention the ammo, and show them if they like, and there response has always been, "Wow", well I hope you find something good. There have been a couple of parks where the guys who maintain them actually "Like" guys detecting there.

yeah, people are surprised when you show them live ammo that you have dug. I have also shown them broken glass that I have picked up and even old rusty nails. the nails to the people that mow an area represent a possible flat that you have removed.
