Morris Slater AKA Railroad Bill, was a 1890's Train Robber in S. Ala. None of his loot was ever recovered. The only clue was he never strayed far from RR Tracks between Atmore & Bay Minette.

From 1815-64, Henry Nunez operated a Ferry on Perdido R. about where Hiway 90 crosses. He died around 1866 & over $100K is buried near the Ferry or his house.

The Outlaw James Copland, buried a barrel of Gold Coins worth $350K near Pirate Oak in Bayou La Batre.

So. Ala - Just for info.On Dead Lake, near Creola, just north of Mobile, are some indian mounds and village area.I moved from there 10yrs ago.I lived on a 57ft houseboat and was not into md then. The mounds were about 3/4 mi down from the small marina, where some broken shells were on the bank, small rise bank and inland about 100yds.I understand that the owner at that time has sold the marina and land to the state or county but doubt if he told them about it and they couldn't be seen from the shore and no trail or path from anywhere by land. You have to look close to see the mounds. Most of the old time residents at that time didn't even know about them.

Rethinking this, those mounds were only about 20 - 30 yds in from the water.Only way in is from the water.Located on north bank.South bank is just a narrow strip island separating Dead Lake creek from the Ala River.

The Ferry area is actually only about 15 minutes from my house and I know it well. I'm not familiar with the location of his homestead, however, but I'm sure a little snooping is in order. This area is densely forrested with briars that resemble daggers. I may get over there this winter when the brush and mosquitoes have died back a bit.
