Hi all....woke up this morning to the first snow of the winter not to bad just a light cover but it did make the 60 mile trip a bit dodgy, we headed back to the Roman Villa field even though the crop is quite high the farmer doesn't mind. Finds a coming a little hard to come by on this site but that's to expected considering the amount of times we have been coming this season, but as always a few things cropped up, the first coin is a :icon_king: Henry111 penny1247-72, next coin is a Roman Bronze but I have no idea from what period :icon_scratch: (open to suggestions) third coin is a Roman debased Silver again no idea of period this is the worst Roman Silver I have had from this field but it is number 13 :tongue3:

that hammered is really nice! but then you deserve it! :o
Thanks Shaun.....that's number 45 this year for me now :o don't know if I will make the majic 50 though :-\
Nice voided long cross, only 45 have you got any batteries in
I'm sick of changing the batteries :D the bloody leads gone now right at the bottom were the flexy bit is on the coil >:( not very happy am going to kick of with regtons tomorow >:(
I guess you must be talking about the Lobo? That's one of the real bad points about that detector. I should have modified it to take drop in packs long ago, but don't use it enough anymore, mostly search with my xp power. I had many times, while changing batteries in the Lobo that one of the wires broke off.....and always at a good hot spot. Another problem I had with the lobo was the thin cord to the coil, I always use it on my belt, and the cable broke so many times I didn't count them. But its elsewise still a GREAT detector.
I am actually talking about the goldmaxx another with a badly designed cable >:(

Beautiful Photos and Even MORE Beautiful Finds. :o

I thought it might be a republic & its just at the cross over point:

Mark Antony Tribune died by Suicide 30BC. This coin circa 32-31 BC.
The Obverse is a Galley rowing Right. Above would be ANT.AVG with below III VIR.R.P.C
Reverse is a Legionary Eagle between 2 Standards with probably LEG V.

There are other similar types with different legion titles as he honoured 23 legions.
These are a celebrated range of coins and some quite commonly encountered but others are scarce.
It is thought he minted these at his HQ at Patrae just prior to his Actian campaign.
Sears Number is 1479

Is this now your oldest coin?

NB.
There are NO bronze coins logged and size would need to be at least AS or above so some 22mm plus. There was a 2nd Century commemorative silver ‘Legionary Mark Antony type’ issued under Marcus Aurelius but this was still silver with Galley being rowed left and 3 Standards. So possibly a contemporary forgery with the silver plate having worn off or is it silver (looks it in the picture)? The sears number above is the closest to the pictures as far as dad can tell and that was a silver denarius.

VERY NICE FIND :icon_king:
Thanks for that.....this is now my oldest coin ;D the coin is bronze it's oblong in shape and is 18mm by 12mm :icon_scratch: I looked on Wildwinds web site last night and noticed some bronze coins of Mark Antony with a ship on one side but as the reverse of my coin is weak it was hard to tell which one it was, I don't think this was once Silvered because of the shape and it shows no sighns of any. Still mighty pleased with the coin

Why Legion V? At this time existed 22 Legions which all are mentioned by their number on Marc Antony's denarii. So it could be any legion between I and XXII.

Hi Folkert nice to hear from you.....as I said to Crusader it's not Silver but a Bronze coin I don't think it's been Silvered at any point either ???

Funny, I don't have any problem with batteries, or cable. In fact the cable is the best I have ever had, and I have owned and used many in all the years. The batteries are drop in, or do you have an other system. I get at least 40 hours out the the batteries (just cheap ones), sometimes much more.
Maybe you have snagged the cable on things and its coming apart now (cable to the coil)?

Notice I Italicized the V & mentioned the 23 not 22. What do you think? Bearing in mind he said its NOT silver?

Cru.... the one I was looking at on Wildwinds last night with the discription you gave Gallion, Eagle between standards was from the second legion

"There are other similar types with different legion titles as he honoured 23 legions", Dad thought he saw a faint V so guessed the Vth however it could be any of the other 22 inclunding the second.
