Hi all....woke up this morning to the first snow of the winter not to bad just a light cover but it did make the 60 mile trip a bit dodgy, we headed back to the Roman Villa field even though the crop is quite high the farmer doesn't mind. Finds a coming a little hard to come by on this site but that's to expected considering the amount of times we have been coming this season, but as always a few things cropped up, the first coin is a :icon_king: Henry111 penny1247-72, next coin is a Roman Bronze but I have no idea from what period :icon_scratch: (open to suggestions) third coin is a Roman debased Silver again no idea of period this is the worst Roman Silver I have had from this field but it is number 13 :tongue3:

Hardcore detecting and you made some awesome finds! That hammered is a beauty. Can't see the Roman silver, are you using the Macro function on the camera? HH, Mike

The roman silver looks like a republic coin :o BC I think, I guess you know its a ship/boat (or is that a bronze?). Send me a picture by email of both sides & I'll set my dad on it. We need 1 more hammered to make 40 & break last years total, so as you are on 45 on your own, your on fire

I guess you must be talking about the Lobo? That's one of the real bad points about that detector. I should have modified it to take drop in packs long ago, but don't use it enough anymore, mostly search with my xp power. I had many times, while changing batteries in the Lobo that one of the wires broke off.....and always at a good hot spot. Another problem I had with the lobo was the thin cord to the coil, I always use it on my belt, and the cable broke so many times I didn't count them. But its elsewise still a GREAT detector.

Very nice finds, and of course the beautiful hammered, a toppie...

I thought it might be a republic & its just at the cross over point:

Mark Antony Tribune died by Suicide 30BC. This coin circa 32-31 BC.
The Obverse is a Galley rowing Right. Above would be ANT.AVG with below III VIR.R.P.C
Reverse is a Legionary Eagle between 2 Standards with probably LEG V.

There are other similar types with different legion titles as he honoured 23 legions.
These are a celebrated range of coins and some quite commonly encountered but others are scarce.
It is thought he minted these at his HQ at Patrae just prior to his Actian campaign.
Sears Number is 1479

Is this now your oldest coin?

NB.
There are NO bronze coins logged and size would need to be at least AS or above so some 22mm plus. There was a 2nd Century commemorative silver ‘Legionary Mark Antony type’ issued under Marcus Aurelius but this was still silver with Galley being rowed left and 3 Standards. So possibly a contemporary forgery with the silver plate having worn off or is it silver (looks it in the picture)? The sears number above is the closest to the pictures as far as dad can tell and that was a silver denarius.

VERY NICE FIND :icon_king:
