We got about an inch of snow last night. I was off today because of the Holiday, and it was just miserable this morning with blowing snow and about 25 degees. Started to clear up about noon so I decided to go back to the button field one more time. After about two hours of just some iron things I got a nice quarter signal. That has always meant a nice large cent in this field. Surprise!! An 1806 Spanish 2 reals. I have found 1/2 reals and 1 reals but this is my first "2 bits". It is larger than I expected. I have posted a picture with a quarter for size comparison. I will keep the pictures, but the coin is going to the property owner. He has been really great to work with, and I have made a lot of great finds on their property. He had asked me the other day, if I had found any Spanish Silver, and at that time I had not. He was really excited when he saw it today. I was really hoping that he would not want it, but I would not have felt right not being honest with him about it. The metal detecting gods will replace it with something else tomorrow. Thanks for looking...Lance

So sorry you already got the 's' stuff.... :-\

But....looks like it doesn't slow you down any!

Awesome find!!! :o

congradulations on the nice find and for being an honest fellow, what goes around comes around and you deserve something nice. It was 42 here but to chilly for me, I'm hoping Sunday will be better so I might go out one last time. No snow on the ground just green grass. Husband is boo hooing because theres no snow for hunting but that makes me happy the deer actually have a chance. HH

You are really a great guy to give up that silver coin. I hope the good karma comes back to you tenfold!

I did go out last night when it was 36 degrees, but I think I'll draw the line at hunting in the snow, Lance. I guess it paid off for you.

Wow wow wow you sure went through a lot of misery to give a great find away! But you know you are credit to the hobby, Great job you know finding the coin is everything keeping it is secondary. I hope it warms up again and you can get out this weekend and have a lot of fun. I on the other hand have to work this weekend and won't be able to get out till Friday.Think about that!

Lance, I love that silver, but I hated seeing that last picture! If you have snow up there already, it;s not to far away from us here in RI. Another spectacular find - great job!!

Awesome find Lance,,, WTG!!!
It's great that your letting the owner have it,,, that would be a hard one for anyone to give up...
Take some good pictures, and back them up... ;)
Good luck & Happy hunting~

Comfy,

nice.

You found it, got the pic.

You did right with the coin.

I'm sure that owner will be showing it around; may even get you a few new places to hunt.

have a good un...............

Awesome coin and post Lance! I wonder if they are milled coins, even though they look hammered? Nice of you to give it to the landowner, good karma and you always have a place to detect! HH, Mike

Also wanted to mention, I ordered a 12" Hot Shot coil for my White's XLT. Will post test results when I receive it. HH, Mike

Is it unusual to find Spanish coins in Vermont? Have you done any research? Nice coin! CZ

Actually they are quite common in older areas. I have found 4 half reals and 5 reals in the past few years. This was the first 2 real. They were used in regular circulation until the early 1800's. This one was actually minted in Lima Peru. Thanks for asking....Lance
