Arty and I had a crazy day at a new field today. We headed to a new farm with over 190 acres to chose from. We both eye balled a hill with a pond in the distance and the rest is history. First target was a Dandy button from Arty. He must have found about 10 of them. I had a handful. We detected from 9:30 until about 1:00 when the snow got the best of us and wet our clothing. It was a frantic few hours of buttons upon buttons and 4 coins total. I found what appears to be a George II that was holed and a small farthing sized coin that appears to have Georges bust on the front and possibly a harp on the back. It was my best button day ever especially for hunting for only about 3 hours. I personally found 52 buttons, 1 is a War of 1812 Navy that I have yet to ID and the rest are almost purely colonial. Found a few other odds and ends but this place was chock full of buttons. The beard Ive been growing kept me warm until it froze..

Awesome. I hope someone here can help you id some of it...My step mother is well over 80 and grew up in south jersey until moving to Miami as a teenager. I would love to go to her hometown to detect.

Button Bonanza there GRIZZLY JIM!!!!!! I think that place has some serious possibilities!!!! CONGRATS... HH

Great assortment of finds. That eagle button is killer and I like the saddle shield. Wish I kept my beard but couldn't deal with the ticks crawling in there. Now I'm patiently waiting for it to grow back.

Thanks guys. Backmark appears to read " C.TWIGG - Birmingham " Cant find it in Tices.

Congrats.Looks like that farm could have a lot of goodies waiting for you to find.Good luck.HH.

Great buttons! Hopefully you can get back there soon w/o the snow.

The button magnet returns. The Navy came out nice. Hopefully the backmark gives up its secrets. A short hunt but sweet, silver awaits...

I love it when you stumble onto a site like that. Seems they always come when you least expect it. The quantity and quality of your button haul is exceptional. Gotta be some silver in there, and I'm sure you'll be returning to find it. Great hunt!

Congrats!

This happened to me 2 years ago. I was out with Dale in Willingboro and neither one of us had any indication that it would snow. All the sudden snowflakes. Next thing we know we were detecting in blizzard like conditions. Must be good luck because that day was the day I dug like 8 or 9 buttons (which is alot for me).

Seeing stuff like this gets me motivated to get back out there swinging!

Nice recoveries man

There has got to be a GW out there somewhere..

great finds. that pic with all the ice in your beard makes me want to stay inside by the fire, and I don't even have a fireplace

Thanks all. Surprising my face was pretty warm. The beard forms a barrier of insulation between mother nature and me.

Geez and I thought it was too cold to go today be cause it was 50 degrees...

The ice crystals in the beard is a nice picture, but those fancy dandies and the early navy trump the beard. Here is an ID for your curved shield shaped device. Looks like you and Arty found both pieces that would have been used on the coat.

Your early Navy button is some variety of Alberts NA 31A. That is the only flat (non convex) Navy that matches. The backmark is not listed in Albert's book.

Sweet find!
