Just got the word from Colchester treasure hunting website UK. The snake buckle is from the 16thC.! My oldest find so far!
Was found in central California back in 2005. The area is 1850's. The buckle looks like a seahorse to me.Incredibly cool find - the ends looked more like horses or dragons to me -
what part of the country may I ask was this found?
Congrats!

Yes they are rare in California. Had to dig mine out of the junk box where it sat for 12 years. Are your snake buckles civil war or post medieval?Nice going. Rare find for CA. In my 40+ yrs. of md'ing here in CA, I think I've only found 2 or 3 of those.
